so today, saturday, a day i was supposed to be able to have off and sleep in... ending up being drastically different then i had hoped for. i got the call friday afternoon that i had to go to the cortland health fair this morning to represent the hockey team, along with a few other guys. the reason me and my buddies were selected was because we are all from out of state, and i was supposed to be good public relations for the team and the residents of the community.
what we were told was that we would have to arrive at 10 am and stay until one, and that we would have a booth with a billboard and basically just sit and talk to the locals about college hockey, and how we all ended up at cortland since we're from across the country. this was not at all what happened.
when we arrived we found out that we actually would be at the other end of the field, playing games with the little kids who were there. even though this was fun, and good interaction, it was not at all what i or any of the other guys were expecting to do. it was a good time though, as we got to play football, soccer, tag and bowling with the little guys. i like kids, they are always entertaining.

i am exhausted
all i want is for a day off where i dont have anything at all to do so that i can just lay down and sleep and watch TV all day long. but that does not happen at cortland state. no matter what, some teacher always has an assignment due, or a paper, or a test on monday, or some other completely random and rediculous assignment that takes up all the spare time i have in the day.
being a student athlete is not easy, it takes a lot of effort to get up everyday knowing that once school is over for the day, i have to go lift for an hour, or skate for two hours, or run for an hour, and come home and have to take care of all the assignments that are due in the next couple of weeks. for once i would love to just have a day where nothing needs to be done.
the weekends right? well no. 8 am saturday lifts sure dont count as a day off. then the rest of the day, well typically thats spent doing homework and catching up in classes im already behind in. and sunday for sure is a day of rest. not when you have three papers due in the next week of class. and just when you would think all of this is coming to an end, its not. the season starts monday, which means skating from 330-5, then lifting for an hour after everyday, plus games on weekends, and a whole lot of travel. like i said... i would love just one day of nothing.

my shopping list for the week.
i thikn this upcomming week i am going to buy a lot of delicious food from the grocery. i typically buy good food, but for some reason i feel like going nuts this week and buying an excessive amount of good food. i will more than likely be going to Tops because i have one of those really nice dicount cards that saves you something like two dollars and thirty three cents everytime you use it. its a really awesome deal.
i will probably start out in the fruit and vegetable section, purchasing apples, bananas, tomatos, romaine lettuce for caesar salads and bagged american salad. after this i will move onto the bread section where i will buy a loaf of wheat and some buns. this will be followed by a purchase of caesar dressing, croutons, catalina dressing, as well as french and blue cheese, which by the way is the greatest combination of dressings that exist and i hope you all get a chance to try it sometime soon for yourself.
leaving the dressing section, i will probably buy some honey bunches of oats, probably some angel hair pasta, pasta sauce, tuna fish, maybe some light miracle whip and spicey brown mustard and catsup if i run out this week. i will also get flat bread to use with the chicken i am buying to make fajitas. probably some bacon for BLT's, and maybe some hamburger helper.
next i will make my way to the meat section, buying patties for hamburgers, 2 lbs of groand beef for hamburger helper, a pound of honey smoked ham, and aybe some turkey. then i will go to the dairy section, getting a gallon of milk, some yogurt, shredded cheese, sliced cheese, microwaveable pizzas, and probably a half gallon on delicious ice cream. should be a tasty week.

the detroit tigers
i hate the detroit tigers and i have completly lost faith. they were outstanding in the first half of the season, and like always... they shat the bed after the all star break. the loss of jeremy bonderman did not help. i am a yankees fanwhich makes the situation alright, but if not for the red sox who dropped five out of their last six to the yankees... the tigers would be sitting pretty at the top of the wild card standings.
its pretty much fair to assume that god does not want the tigers to win the world series. after the dominating performance they put on last year... coming to a halt against the drastically under-talented cardinals, coupled with this years falling off, there really can be only one true reason why the tigers cannot win the world championship... and that is god, and his dislike for the detroit boys.
its a good thing we still have the pistons, red wings, and for the first time since the depart of barry sanders... the lions. these teams, along with the shock (who have been to the WNBA finals somethign like 3 times in the past 5 years) just goes to show that detroit truly is the greatest sports town in the world. let me know when the knicks make the playoffs. slater.

christian slater
christian slater is by far one of the greatest actors even to set foot on the silver screen. his outstanding performances, accompanied by his off screen antics, allow for this one of a kind human being to sink into the hearts of many. if you have never seen the movie, Very Bad Things, i strongly recommend you make your way over to the nearest blockbuster and pick it up. this movie shows slater in his absolute prime.
off screen, christian has been notorious known for his drug and alcohol use, as well as for his interest in women. he holds nothing back, and goes balls to the wall, typically showing up to movie sets reeking of liqour, pot and cat houses. now this may not seem too out of the ordinary considering its hollywood and all, but trust me, slater is no joke.
in fact, christian has made such a name for himself, when making refernce to someone who is hungover, or reeking of booze, it is not out of the ordinary to actually call them christian slater. this may come in handy when trying to be politically correct, and instead of calling someone an alcoholic or maybe somehting worse, you can simply say, "hey christian slater, you stink."

diesel
nicholas shartfield (diesel) may be the best looking dude at SUNY cortland. the kid is an absolute wheel and he loves swamps. i respect him like an elder, because he is 26, but besides that, he is what all guys should strive to be like. thats really all i have to say about the guy, he is a real GG. IM TRYIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! some of you may not understand that last part, but one of you will for sure.
next topic. i am sick of 8am saturday lifts. it really puts a damper on my friday night. where i would typically be enjoying myself and having a good time, i find myself doing homework and then putting in a sappy movie to remind me how awful of a time im having. the only decent thing about it is that i save a little bit of money.
i am losing faith in the tigers. with any luck, the red sox will win all three games against the yankees this weekend, and detroit will be able to move closer to them in the wild card race. i am doubtful though, as the tigers have been brutal since the all star break.

it would be kind if the girls outside would stop yelling
it is 1130 at night, i am sitting at my desk minding my own business, listening to chenny, and outside i hear a group of 10-15 girls yelling. it didnt appear that they were yelling for a certain reason, just obnoxiously yelling, at 1130 at night. this is the last thing i want to hear when i am trying to enjoy a quality session of chenny. it put a real damper on my mood and now i am writing about it, real sweet. god im a jerry.
anyway, i feel bad for NY football fans, because the lions are now 1-0, and the bills, jets and giants are all 0-1. thats real embarassing... ill be honest, the lions are bad and now have a winning record. dont think im rubbing anything in though, because detroit definatly wont be abovve 500 again this year.
and i want to jump off a cliff and die on impact because the tigers are completely and miserably awful. so much for the hopes of a world series title this year... maybe next year our pitchers wont strain muscles in their hands playing guitar hero and they can pitch all year, who knows... just a thought. its a good thing we still have the red wings.

probably a fiction story
one day a man named hector was walking down the street. this was no ordinary street though. it was actually a magical street where very odd things tended to happen. there was no way hector could have known this, so he continued on his merry way. after walking about a hundred yards he began to notice something strange... at first he couldnt tell exactly what it was, but soon it was quite clear to him what was happening. but i cant tell you because it is a secret so just use your imagination and i bet you can think up something pretty cool. like maybe something out of harry potter.
after the magical experience hector returned to the safety of his home, where he cooked a microwavable meal and watched American Idol season 4 on DVD. i cant exactly remember but i think thats the season where simon treats everyone like shit. anyway, hector finished his hungry man, the kind that comes with salisbury steak, mashed potatos and corn, and then made the trip from his living room to his bedroom, but on the way that magical thing that you thought up just a minute ago happened again.
finally, hector made it to his quarters, where he layed down softly on his tempur pedic matrass and closed his eyes. but for some strange reason he couldnt fall asleep because of his prior magical experience that only you know about.

the great state fair of new york
this past friday and saturday i was fortunate enough to make it to the state fair in syracuse. being from michigan, this was my first time being able to attend the event. i figured it would be the same as any other fair... and it proved to be; but, what made this weekend different from any other was that my friends and i actually attended to see kenney chesney and brad paisley.
i am a huge country fan, and i had never seen either of these performers live so this was an exciting weekend for me. the days started early, tailgaiting and eating hot dogs all afternoon before eventually stumbling towards the stage later that evening.
the concert on friday was headlined by kenny chesney, but he also had another band opening up for him, sugarland. i am not the biggest sugarland fan but i must admit they did a good job and were just as good live as they are on the radio. needless to say, kenny was incredable. he played plenty of his older songs as well as few newer ones as well.
saturday was headlined by brad paisley, but also had a three other performers opening up for him. the first of the three was kellie pickler, followed by taylor swift and jack ingram. this was a fun concert, as throughout the show each performer would have pranks played on them. each of them also put on a good show, and brad paisley did a great job as well.

my totally awesome summer adventures
this was an intesesting summer for me. for the first time i decided not to find a job at home, but rather to move across the country for work. i started out working a hockey camp in tulsa, oklahoma for a week, then moved on to boulder, colorado for the next three. my time in boulder was well spent, as i had the opportunity to go mountain hiking and biking, as well as tube down the river that runs through the center of town. after boulder i had to unfortunatly spend the next week in freemont, nebraska. there was nothing exciting about this town. after a week of nothing i got to go to pindale, wyoming (about an hour from Jackson and Jackson Hole). this was an interesting town, as the majority of the locals all worked in the oil fields. maybe the scariest part of the trip occurred here, when three of the townspeople were considering whether or not to beat me up because i told them i worked indoors. after the week in pindale my buddies and i made it to jackson hole where we spent the remainder of the weekend. here we got the chance to visit the Teton national park and mountain range. we took the lifts to the top, and from there base jumped down from 13,000 feet. ha. the next week i spent in boise, idaho. here i spent most of my time on the snake river, relaxing, tubing, and wakeboarding. my final week on the road was spent in the town of breckenridge, colorado, which was fun, but definatly would have been more enjoyable in the winter. overall it was a fun summer on the road as i got to see many parts of the country i had never seen before.

JERRY
I wanted to sleep in today but i was rudly awakened by a phone call. fortunatly, for me the phone call was from an attractive young woman who was making her way to my house. this caused a problem for me because i was extremely comfortable in my bed, but the door downstairs was locked. i fumbled out of bed and down the stairs to let the striving, young woman into my house. upon her entrance, i returned to my bed to sleep for the next thirty minutes until my alarm went off. once i finally woke up, i began spooning with the girl who was now half naked and laying next to me in bed. i tried not to let my hands wander, but that didnt last long. after a while i got bored so i took a shower, got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast. i had a deicious bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats, along with a plain bagel toasted with cream cheese. after breakfast was finished, i went to the living room to continue watching the box set of One Tree Hill with the girl and my roommates. i must admit that this is an awful show, but the drama and awkwardness of it is just too much for me to ignore. after a few inutes of reliving high school it was time to leave for school. i made the long walk down west court, towards the campus of SUNY cortland with the diar heat of the sun pounding down onto me. this made me uncomfortable, but i had to battle through the adversity in order to be on time for class. even though the whole time all i could think about was making a detour to go get some delicious sherbert ice cream.
